Click Here to return to the top Berry Hill, Mansfield 5/12/2009 The 3rd race of the north midlands league series took place at Berry Hill Park Mansfield and thanks to the weather leading up to the day; a proper cross country course was waiting for the participating athletes. The race program started as normal at 1pm with the Under 13 boys and Under 15 girls race. Sutton girls were represented by Bethany Ceney & Florin Bailey but unfortunately had no representation from the boys. The next races were: Under 15 boys and Under 17 girls, Jake Lacey and Jordon Mitchell were our male representatives - It looks like Jake will be looking over his shoulder soon as Jordan is getting closer to him in each race. Next on the agenda was Senior Ladies, Fran Meakin once again led the team home with Sally Hughes, in her first north mids, not that far behind her and Nikita Pembleton making up the trio finishing 4th in her age category. It was a good day for the ladies team finishing 2nd on the day and moved up from 6th to 2nd overall and in with a great chance of securing a medal with only 1 fixture left. The Senior and Veteran men were next to race. Once again it was the old timers of Sutton representing with all the runners being of veteran status. Dean Cross led the way home followed by Paul Whittingham. Dave Pickering made his first appearance in cross country since the same fixture last year. Paul Beasley, Joe Ball and Andy Mitchell made it through the bog mire in the woods to complete a second veteran team. Callum Goodyear was again our only starter in Under 17 men and made steady headway through the field to finish 23rd. At this meeting there was also a mixed fun run for under elevens starting just after the Senior men race. This often means the course will be at its muddiest! Sutton had 3 representatives, 2 boys (Ben Burnham & Callum Ball) and 1 girl (Erin Bowmar). Next meeting - Wollaton Park - Saturday 16th Jan where the senior ladies should be looking to secure a team medal. By Paul Whittingham Sutton Results

The last race of the North Midlands League fixtures took place on the 16^th January at Wollaton Park Nottingham.

The pressure was on Sutton’s senior ladies to see if they could retain the 2nd placed team position behind Charnwood, it would be difficult with the likes of Nene Valley, Newark ac and Long Eaton all snapping at their heels.

The race program got under way as normal at 1pm with the under 13 boys and under 15 girls race. Sutton was represented by Bethany Ceney and Florin Bailey in the girls but unfortunately once again had no representation in the boy’s field. Bethany again finished in front of Florin but both girls had run well through out the four race series.

The next race up was the under 15 boys and under 17 girls, Jake Lacey and Jordon Mitchell were our reps and Jake got an early lead but Jordan closed the gap, the further the race went on and there was only a few seconds between them at the line with Jake just coming out on top..

The next race on the agenda was Senior ladies, could they keep 2nd position. The answer was YES by 1 place, final scores after all races was Charnwood 1^st174, Sutton 2^nd 301 and Nene Valley 3^rd 302 points. Fran Meakin once again led the team home in an excellent 6^th place, Nikita Pemleton finished 21^st (3rd in her age category). Alison Whittingham was the 3rd member of the team finishing 48^th and guaranteeing that 2^nd position in the team event. Both Fran and Nikita were unlucky not to win individual honours both finishing 4^th in their age categories respectively.

The senior and veteran men were next to race and once again Dean Cross led the way home followed by Paul Whittingham, both having their best race of the series. Paul Beasley and Joe Ball made up the quartet who had 3 large laps of the park to cover 6.7miles in total

In the under elevens mixed race which starts just after the senior men’s race, Sutton had two representatives, Callum Ball and Erin Bowmar both found the Wollaton Hill a little on the tough side but with that typical Sutton Harriers grit ground it out to the finish.
