Press Report
On Sunday Feb 20th at the Meres Leisure Centre Grantham the East Midlands Sports Hall Regional finial was held with teams from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. The event was for U13 and U15 year old Athletes taking part in various races which included 2,4,6 and 8 laps of the hall intermingled with field events involving, High Jump, Speed Bounce, Vertical High Jump, Standing Triple and Long Jump along with the Shot. The Notts team were well up the ranking with numerous second places throughout the whole range of events. The Notts team results were as follows, The U15 girls team were 3rd with 571 points beaten by Leicestershire with 611 points and South Yorkshire with 614 points, The U15 boys were ranked 2nd with 571 points being beaten by Derbyshire with 661 points. In the U13 girl's events Derbyshire again supported the top team with 682 points but Nottingham followed them with 581 points Finally the Notts U13 boys team were first with 640 points and will now move on to the National Sports Hall Final at Birmingham in March. This team of seven had three members of Sutton Harriers within it who were Charlie Taylor. Peter Smead and Paul Rathbone, this was a great achievement by the team due to the fact that the day before this event the fastest sprinter in the team Paul, twisted his ankle at squad training and turn up limping only being able to take part in the shot, but the determination of the other team members took them to the final. The club members that also gained awards were Bethany Mitchell who received a bronze in the Shot. Charlie Taylor and Peter Smead were awarded Gold medals for their achievement in the obstacle relay, Finally Nick Ward achieved a Bronze medal for his 11.49m throw in the shot. Matthew Cotton also ran for the U15 boys team and took part in the 4 lap, Standing triple jump, speed bounce and the 4 x 2 relay but the opposition and his fitness just kept him out of the medals. The young Athletes are now looking forward to the end of the cross-country season and the start of the track and field events.
