Sports Hall League (Event 5)  Sunday 13th Feb 2004
On Sunday at Newark was held the last of this seasons Sports Hall League events with teams from Worksop, Sutton, Newark, Retford, Rushcliffe, Mansfield and Notts. Sutton in Ashfield Harriers had over 20 members taking part and achieved some excellent results. Individually three members of the Suttons team received awards, the first was an U11 girl Sophie Aspinall who gained the award for achieving a new record of 10.7m for the sit and throw event. Secondly for the U15 boys Nick Ward received the award for the best shot put of the season. Thirdly Matthew Cotton in his last season of sport hall was awarded the Nottingham Sports hall Athlete of the year In the team event Sutton have been climbing up the ranking throughout the season and have lost points due to the lack of an U15 girls team and low numbers in the U15 boys but they still achieved 4th in the U13 Girls, 3rd in the U15 boys and 2nd in the U11 girls. With an overall team result of 3rd just behind Rushcliffe and Nottingham. This is an achievement for all the members of this expanding team, the Coaches and parents who are very supportive and the tireless team manager Mrs Julie Mitchell. Four of the team members are now training and looking forward to the Regional final in Grantham next week in the Nottinghamshire team competing against Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and south Yorkshire.
